This is a fictionalized account of a midwife's experiences in England. I'm not particularly interested in the process of childbirth but found this an interesting book. The author is a cheerful sort who relates her stories in a compassionate manner and with a sense of humor.It's easy to see she loves her work and treats her patients with respect despite some of their idiosyncrasies. Unlike most authors I've read who are part of the British National Health Service, she blessedly only briefly mentions it. An enjoyable book which made me more intrigued by a midwife's duties.Product details

Book was mediocre. I woul ls not recommend to my frieds. It seemed that her opinions were all that mattered, and how she poo pooed on all others
This was a great book, short stories of birth experiences. I normally dint like short stories, but the writer kept my interest and I enjoyed the book. I would have given it a 5 star, but too many grammar mistakes.
Very interesting book , great for those who are contemplating going into Nursing and Midwifery , could relate to some of the stories and learnt some facts about drugs and the effects on the unborn . She writes a good tale . and has had a wealth knowledge to tell
I love midwife memoirs and this was a quick and easy read. The midwife practiced in England so as an American it was interesting to see the differences in care and protocols. The writing was not stellar, but not bad enough to take away from the stories. If you devour books about childbirth and midwifery the way I do then I recommend it!
This book was excellent and so true. I enjoyed it from the Title to the end. Hope to read many more from this author.
I was the impression that the book would be about the day to day life of a midwife, complete with birth stories. The book does include some stories about birth, but it appears to me to be more of an instructional-type book about pregnancy and birth.
This book would be best for a first time mom, as it goes over a lot of info and explanations. Others who enjoy reading about birth stories won't be satisfied, as the births that are written about are few and far between.
This is a collection of short stories that cover different subjects and experiences of a midwife. I have always been interested in stories like this. I have four kids. I have had a miscarriage and a chemical pregnancy and am currently pregnant with my fifth. I could relate to many of the things in this book and loved the different perspective! You'll enjoy the read!
